Crocodile Pictures

The crocodile has always figured prominently in tropical Australia. The crocodile is a prominent figure in aboriginal culture, appearing frequently in stories, songs, artwork and other parts of the culture of tribes in the region.

The croc has also emerged as a symbol of the region. The Townsvile Crocs are one of the region's pro basketball teams. There are car rental companies, hotels, restaraunts, even an ice cream bar named after crocodiles. The toothy grins of these cartoon figures appear all over the place.

African Tiger Pictures

African Tiger
Although conventional wisdom has it that there never have been tigers in Africa, there is evidence from fossils that the sabre-tooth species was found in many parts of the continent until about a million years ago. The reason for their disappearance is unclear, but palaeontologists say it was probably caused by dramatic climatic changes opening up the savannahs.

Lion Pictures

For all of their roaring, growling, and ferociousness, lions are family animals and truly social in their own communities. They usually live in groups of 15 or more animals called prides. Prides can be as small as 3 or as big as 40 animals. In a pride, lions hunt prey, raise cubs, and defend their territory together.
